2:03 pm - have you been to your hometown lately?
|
When I go home to Lexington, I always visit my teachers at the high school. I always walk through town, saying hello to people in the community. Every year, I check in with the town pharmacists, the librarians, the ministers, and the bank tellers. They all know I'm gay. Many of them held me when I was a baby. It's important to me that they watch me grow up, that they trace my development from child to teenager to young adult, and eventually, middle-age. If you can look someone in the eye and say, "I knew you when you were this big," it's hard to hate them. Gay men and women cannot just disappear from our hometowns. That's where we have the most influence.

11:29 am - pieces of clay
|
"Nowadays many people seem to believe their lives are entirely a matter of choice; but in my day we viewed ourselves as pieces of clay that forever show the fingerprints of everyone who has touched them."

i have decided to read every book in my apartment. i/we have so many books that i have never finished or never read. (why are old books never as exciting to read as new ones, fresh from the bookstore?) i will read them one by one and keep record in my journal, to keep myself going. this is my new project.

11:17 am - poetry by another person with the same handwriting
|
have you ever found a bad poem in a notebook, your notebook, buried among your books? the poem is clearly in your own handwriting, but for the life of you, you don't remember writing it? and then you read it and you blush at the existence of it, wondering how it survived years of spring cleaning. you try to remember where you were physically and mentally at the time of the accident/poem. the only clue you have to work with is the crusty dusty notebook that brings you back to a season you tried to forget. freaked out to know you wrote words that you do not recognize? i have. see below.
found poem. yellow legal pad. summer 2002.
have some coffee if innocence is a virtue, what is loss of innocence? run 3 miles call a friend a small child makes me smile the rest irritates wipe off the puss he says it won't change anything waiting in line to wait in line to get to the place where the system is down i'm not amused i'm blind and see everything god, please dull my senses where is the train?

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to say THANKS to everyone who came to see me and my band play at Tribe (Felt) on Thursday and at the Rack on Friday. The band and I had a great time and it was fun fun fun with all of you there shakin' it to my tunes.
Also, good news! One of the producers of Kiss 108's show "Matty in the Morning" was at Felt on Thursday and really liked what he heard! He chose me for "Pick of the Week" on their Web site: http://www.mattyinthemorning.com/picksoftheweek.html
For those of you Under-21 or Not-into-clubs Joya Fans, please stay tuned for future Joya shows. I havent forgotten about you!
xoxo, Joya
